The West End

The West End

I took quite a few pictures of the rivers in downtown Milwaukee, and it's surely a different world along the flood plain of the Trinity River. The folks marketing the developments that have turned what was once river bottom into housing would like to call them "lakes," but they are essentially run-off ponds.

No matter. A photographer's job is to see. The way the light falls, the color of the light, the way the mists of the morning defuse the light, the reflection of the light and the clouds on the water, the moving shadows through the hours.... Always, everywhere, there's something to see. It might get old to look at a picture of a pond every day for a month, but then again, it might be a good thing to try.
